Platform Engineer
About this opportunity
Introduction to the Role
Are you ready to build secure platform capabilities that make software delivery faster, safer, and simpler for engineering teams?
As a Platform Engineer, you will develop and improve Golden Pipelines, reusable infrastructure modules, GitHub Actions workflows, automation, and standardized templates. You will apply established engineering and security patterns to create scalable, plug-and-play solutions for teams across the enterprise.
This is a hands-on builder role within Platform & Forward Engineering, not a platform-support position. You will work with Senior Platform Engineers and other specialists while developing deeper expertise in AWS, Terraform, DevSecOps, cloud security, and enterprise platform engineering.
You do not need to bring every advanced capability on day one. We are looking for strong engineering fundamentals, relevant hands-on experience, and the ability to learn and take on increasing technical ownership.
Accountabilities
Golden Pipelines and Templates: Build and improve Golden Pipelines, GitHub Actions workflows, and reusable infrastructure templates using established platform standards.
Terraform Module Engineering: Develop modular, scalable, and secure Terraform modules using established Infrastructure as Code patterns.
DevSecOps Implementation: Implement and maintain controls such as SAST, DAST, SCA, software bill of materials generation, supply-chain security, and pipeline protections.
Security by Design: Apply least privilege, security, and compliance requirements across assigned platform solutions.
Cloud and Platform Engineering: Contribute to solutions across serverless, container, compute, networking, and hybrid environments.
Secure CI/CD: Implement and maintain secure CI/CD patterns for enterprise engineering teams.
Automation and Tooling: Create automation and internal tooling using Python, Go, or a comparable language.
Testing and Quality: Develop and maintain tests for Infrastructure as Code, scripts, and automation.
Technical Collaboration: Work with Senior Platform Engineers and other technical partners to review designs, solve problems, and improve engineering quality.
Documentation and Enablement: Produce and maintain architecture diagrams, technical documentation, and guidance that help teams use platform capabilities.
AI and Innovation: Use AI tools responsibly to support development, testing, documentation, and secure design.
Essential Skills and Experience
Hands-on experience in platform engineering, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or a comparable engineering environment.
Practical experience with AWS, including relevant serverless, compute, networking, or security services.
Hands-on experience with Terraform or comparable Infrastructure as Code technologies.
Programming or scripting experience in Python, Go, or a comparable language.
Understanding of CI/CD concepts and experience building or maintaining delivery pipelines.
Understanding of DevSecOps practices, with experience in some of the following: SAST, DAST, or SCA
Software bills of materials
Software supply-chain security
Secure CI/CD pipeline practices
Understanding of least privilege, security by design, and cloud-security fundamentals.
Experience building automation, reusable components, infrastructure modules, or standardized templates.
Ability to test, troubleshoot, document, and improve technical solutions.
Ability to collaborate effectively, incorporate technical feedback, and develop new capabilities.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Experience with GitHub Actions or comparable workflow technologies.
Familiarity with Python or Go testing practices.
Exposure to Infrastructure as Code testing tools such as Terratest.
Kubernetes or container-orchestration exposure.
Experience with serverless or container-based architectures.
Hybrid or on-premises architecture exposure.
Azure exposure.
Knowledge of modern application stacks such as Java, .NET, or React.
Exposure to software supply-chain security.
Experience applying AI tools to development, testing, or documentation.
What Success Looks Like
Secure, reusable, and scalable platform capabilities are delivered with consistent quality.
Security controls are implemented by default within assigned solutions.
Terraform modules, pipelines, automation, and templates follow established engineering patterns.
Platform capabilities are compliant, developer-friendly, and easy to consume.
Technical ownership and DevSecOps expertise increase over time.
Manual work, security risks, and configuration errors are reduced through automation and standardized solutions.

How this role compares
Computed from every other active Information Technology role in our database, not just this employer's listings.
We currently track 1097 comparable Information Technology roles across 55 biopharma companies.
Salary context
143 of 1097 peers report a salary range (USD, annualized)
Peers share this role's job function. This posting doesn't list a seniority level, so peers aren't narrowed by seniority either -- the range below may span more levels than usual.

Similar opportunities
The closest matches from our peer group, ranked by how similar they are, not how well you'd qualify for them -- treat this as market context, not a guaranteed shortlist; a weak match is labeled as one below.
How we calculate "similar"
No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.
Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.
0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
