This is a rare opportunity to define, from the ground up, how a regulated organization adopts and governs artificial intelligence responsibly. You will set the guardrails, build the framework, and act as the trusted bridge between the technical realities of AI and the regulatory, quality, and business considerations that shape our industry. What you’ll do
Provide proactive and strategic quality leadership in AI and data integrity: Lead the development of quality strategy and oversight approaches for AI-enabled, data-driven, and digitally supported activities across R&D, with a particular focus on trustworthy, reliable, and transparent use of data and algorithms.
Establish guardrails, requirements, policies, and standards, for how AI is deployed in a regulated setting, including how data must be handled, governed, and used.
Influence and build alignment with senior leaders, guiding strategic decision-making on AI adoption.
Shape governance for AI- and data-related risk by providing clear insight, reporting, and recommendations to relevant decision-making forums.
Maintain an external focus on AI, digital regulation, and data governance: Drawing on expert communities and networks to stay current with evolving AI regulations, standards, and industry practices, and translating these into practical guidance for the organization.
Collaborate with and influences external stakeholders and regulatory bodies, representing AstraZeneca’s quality position and helping to shape expectations in evolving areas of science and technology.
Provide expert input into quality and compliance risk management, including identification, assessment, mitigation planning and monitoring.
Lead or support due diligence activities, inspections, audits and critical quality issue management, ensuring timely resolution and organizational learning.
Essential Skills/Experience
Significant experience in a regulated industry, pharmaceutical is preferred, but we welcome candidates from medtech, IVD, diagnostics, digital health, or other highly regulated sectors with transferable governance experience.
Expertise in regulatory requirements relevant for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry
Strong knowledge of AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, digital systems, and data lifecycle management
Strong understanding of data integrity principles, data governance, and risks associated with computerized and AI-enabled systems
Proven ability to influence senior leaders and provide strategic advice in complex, rapidly evolving scientific and technological environments
A collaborative working style, comfortable partnering across functions and disciplines
High ethical standards, trustworthy, operating with absolute discretion
