Role Description

The Senior Manager, Medical Operations Excellence is a strategic and operational role responsible for advancing best-in-class scientific content development, publication excellence, medical content standards, and organizational capability building. This role will implement global frameworks, training programs, onboarding curricula, and continuous improvement initiatives that enable consistent, high-quality, compliant, and innovative scientific communications across the organization.

This role serves as a facilitator, collaborator, and operational partner to Scientific Communications leadership and cross-functional stakeholders by reinforcing standards, supporting training and on

boarding initiatives, enabling scalable content development approaches, and contributing to efficient operational planning.

Reporting to the Director of Medical Operations, this global role will help support a modular content strategy through template development, content enablement resources, workflow coordination, and operational support. This individual will collaborate closely with Scientific Communications leadership and Operations colleagues globally and within Amgen India to help maintain a cohesive, forward-looking, and collaborative Scientific Communications organization.

Roles & Responsibilities

Support and reinforce adherence to established Scientific Communications standards, processes, and compliance expectations across content development activities, including alignment with GPP, ICMJE, internal SOPs, and other applicable requirements.

Develop and maintain capacity tracking models, workload assessments, resource planning tools, and operational reporting to inform business planning and prioritization.

Design, develop, and lead comprehensive training, onboarding, certification, and competency programs for scientific communications staff, including role-based learning pathways for new hires.

Deliver workshops, webinars, and continuous learning initiatives focused on Scientific Communications processes, publication guidelines and compliance, and digital and omnichannel content strategies.

Partner with Scientific Communications leadership and operational stakeholders to support scalable, modular, and reusable content development approaches aligned to omnichannel engagement strategies.

Facilitate the development and maintenance of operational resources that improve consistency, efficiency, and clarity across Scientific Communications activities.

Collaborate with Operations colleagues globally and at Amgen India to support aligned execution models, knowledge sharing, and operational consistency.

Evaluate training effectiveness and continuously refine programs based on participant feedback, impact metrics, evolving business needs, and best practices.

Define, track, and report KPIs related to content quality, training effectiveness, and process efficiency.

Assist with coordination and communication across Scientific Communications teams, operational partners, and external stakeholders, as appropriate.

Foster a culture of continuous learning, quality, compliance, and excellence across scientific communications, publications, and medical content teams.

This role will include management responsibility for one direct report and will support the development and operational enablement of team capabilities through coaching, collaboration, and day-to-day leadership.

Basic Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, business, operations, technology, healthcare administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

10+ years of experience in scientific communications, medical operations, or medical affairs within pharma/biotech

Proven leadership experience in content excellence, communication strategy, or capability building

Demonstrated experience designing and delivering training programs and onboarding curricula

Strong understanding of global publication standards (GPP, ICMJE, CONSORT, etc.), industry guidelines, and compliance and regulatory standards

Experience of working within matrixed, global organizations

Functional Skills & Competencies

Ability to define a strategic vision for content excellence and drive enterprise-wide initiatives that improve quality, consistency, efficiency, and compliance across publications and medical content.

Strong leadership, influence, and stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional, regional, and global teams without direct authority.

Strong understanding of quality, compliance, and governance requirements, with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to consistency and process adherence.

Operational mindset with demonstrated experience in workflow optimization, process improvement, KPI tracking, and use of data-driven insights to improve quality, cycle times, and business impact.

Expertise in instructional design, learning principles, onboarding, competency development, and capability-building for scientific communications or medical content teams.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders ranging from junior staff to senior leadership across global and local teams.

Familiarity with digital tools, content platforms, publication management systems, global publication planning tools, and emerging AI-enabled solutions for scientific writing, content development, and process efficiency.

Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of continuous learning, quality, compliance, innovation, and operational excellence.
