Business Development and M&A plays a critical core role in AZ achieving its strategic priority of growth through scientific innovation through the successful execution of transactions which expand, focus and rationalise the Company’s pipeline and portfolio. Recent transaction examples include the acquisition of Fusion Pharmaceuticals and Gracell Biotechnologies, the exclusive license agreements with Eccogene and Dizal Pharmaceuticals, and the collaborations with Daiichi Sankyo and Merck.

As the Senior Director in Alliance and Integration Management (AIM) team, you will play a critical role in achieving our strategic priority of growth through scientific innovation. Reporting to the Head of AIM, you will manage and optimize the value of late-phase development/commercial alliances, own the integration of complex partnerships/asset-acquisitions, and lead the transition of divestments across the global business.

Through exceptional leadership, strong cross-functional alignment and collaboration with multiple groups (executive leadership, business development, legal, finance, commercial, operations, clinical, regulatory) and the solid building of effective partner relationships, this role ensures cohesive engagement with the overall Alliance and Integration Management performance objectives.

Accountabilities: 

Lead the integration and alliance activities for high priority and complex company acquisitions, divestitures, strategic alliances and other deal types through cross-functional teams.

Drive the rapid establishment of optimized, efficient business processes for integrated entities and alliance relationships to deliver the value underpinning the business case for the deal, whilst balancing and managing business, legal, and human risks appropriately

Own the reporting of progress for the key acquisitions and alliances across AZ to SET and senior stakeholders, recommending areas for performance improvement

Ensure compliance with all contractual provisions, managing contractual disputes, and coordinating contract renegotiations or amendments when required.

In collaboration with Due Diligence and Transaction Directors, you will provide input and expertise in negotiating the new alliances, divestment transfer service agreements, and ensure seamless transition from signature to the initiation of integration or alliance

You will also build and implement best-in-industry approaches to Alliance and Integration Management, developing tools, techniques and processes to improve AstraZeneca's ways of working in delivering integrations and managing successful alliances

You will act as a spokesperson / ambassador for AZ at Alliance, Integration and BD meetings and conferecnes, ensuring that AZ is seen as a leader in the field of alliance and integration management

Essential: 

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience (business, legal, finance or life sciences discipline)

10+ years' relevant pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience

Desired:

MBA or other post-graduate qualification, CA-AM, CSAP

Detailed understanding of contracts, partnerships, negotiation tactics, alliance management and M&A integration. Transition experience including carve-outs, divestitures and developing best practices.

Keen understanding of the scientific drug development process, regulatory and commercial concepts, and knowledge of the crucial activities for all key functional areas.

Analytical and has the ability to frame complex problems and articulate clear, data-driven recommendations.

Able to analyze problems and provide resolutions at both strategic and tactical levels.

Outstanding relationship building, negotiating and interpersonal abilities to connect with individuals across all levels

Ability to build consensus between various internal and external partners, functions and collaborators
