Head of Commercialization Technology

About the Role

Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking a visionary technology and data leader to serve as Head of Commercialization Technology. This role sits at the center of how BMS engages customers, generates medical evidence about our portfolio, and translates scientific innovation into real-world impact for patients.

The Head of Commercialization Technology is accountable for all technology capabilities supporting Commercial and Medical Affairs, including CRM platforms, omnichannel engagement, advanced analytics, and AI-enabled insights. More importantly, this role is responsible for unlocking the strategic value of data, real-world data, syndicated data, and BMS’s internal customer and product data, to fundamentally change how we understand, serve, and learn from our customers.

This is not a traditional IT role. It is a senior leadership position focused on always-on insight generation, intelligent engagement, and data-driven evidence creation, operating at the intersection of technology, data science, medicine, and commercial strategy.

What Makes This Role Unique

Commercial and Medical Affairs teams at BMS have ambitious aspirations for how technology, and especially AI, can transform their work. They want:

Always-on, integrated insights about customers, patients, products, and markets

Intelligent omnichannel engagement grounded in real customer behavior and needs

The ability to detect signals in real-world data that inform evidence generation, study design, and scientific strategy

Faster, more precise feedback loops between field activity, customer engagement, and medical insight

This role exists to turn that ambition into a coherent, scalable, and responsible technology and data ecosystem, one that moves beyond static dashboards and episodic analytics toward continuous learning systems embedded in how the organization operates.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision

Co-define and co-own the long-term technology and data vision with Commercial and Medical Affairs

Establish a clear point of view on how AI, advanced analytics, and real-world data should be used to drive commercial effectiveness and scientific learning

Demonstrate a high propensity for action and urgency in making meaningful progress while navigating a lot of underlying complexity

Translate commercial and medical strategy into a cohesive, multi-year technology and data roadmap with measurable business impact

Data, AI & Insight Generation

Lead the design and evolution of an integrated data ecosystem combining real-world data, syndicated data, and internal BMS data assets

Enable always-on insight generation that connects customer behavior, engagement, outcomes, and product performance

Champion the use of advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI to surface insights that improve decision-making across marketing, sales, medical, and evidence generation

Partner closely with Medical Affairs, R&D, and Evidence teams to leverage commercial and real-world data to inform study design, hypothesis generation, and evidence priorities

Omnichannel & Customer Engagement Technology

Own CRM and omnichannel platforms supporting field teams, marketing, and medical engagement, ensuring these systems deliver exceptional usability and leverage AI to orchestrate next-best actions across channels

Drive customer engagement strategies grounded in integrated data and real-time insights rather than static segmentation models

Enable personalization at scale while maintaining rigorous compliance, trust, and transparency

Business Partnership

Serve as a trusted thought partner to senior leaders in Commercial and Medical Affairs

Help business leaders understand what is possible with modern data and AI, and what it takes to operationalize it responsibly

Translate complex technical concepts into clear strategic choices and trade-offs

Team & Capability Building

Build, lead, and inspire high-performing teams across data engineering, analytics, AI/ML, platform engineering, and product management

Attract and develop top technical and analytical talent in a highly competitive market

Establish modern operating models that emphasize product thinking, experimentation, and rapid learning, not project-centric delivery

Governance, Risk & Responsibility

Ensure all technology and data use complies with regulatory, privacy, and ethical standards across global markets

Balance innovation with appropriate controls, demonstrating that responsible AI and data use can accelerate, not constrain, impact

Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams to embed guardrails without stifling progress

What You Bring

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
