The Senior Data Scientist will execute data science projects across the company with the purpose of solving non-routine business problems by applying advanced analytical methods including artificial intelligence, machine learning, causal inference, advanced statistics, and natural language processing by comprehensive application of contemporary LLMs and other related techniques.

This Position can be filled in Ingelheim or Biberach.

This position can be filled either as Data Scientist or Senior Data Scientist.

Tasks & responsibilities

In your new role, you analyze large complex manufacturing, quality, engineering, and supply chain data sets to deliver Human Pharma business solutions.

You model business requirements in analytics systems in cooperation with IT and meanwhile manage the prioritization and implementation of digital projects.

Global Project Management is your daily business: Herby you drive and deliver digitalization projects globally together with HP Departments, IT, BI-X, and external partners.

Furthermore, you provide support for advanced analytics applications for HP sites globally to bring in the advantages of digitalization and innovation to the business.

As part of the Data Science Team, you promote Digitalization within the whole Human Pharma Organization and towards internal and external customers, build up data-driven approaches, digital knowledge pool and network and support necessary change processes.

Additional tasks for Senior Data Scientist

You lead complex global data science and AI initiatives, acting as a subject matter expert and strategic partner for business stakeholders.

Mentor and develop Data Scientists while driving best practices, technical excellence, and adoption of emerging AI technologies across the organization.

Requirements

PhD or master’s degree in mathematics, physics, computer science or comparable fields

Several years of relevant work experience in data science and machine learning, experience in biotech/pharma/chemistry industry would be perfect

Proven expertise in Data Science, Statistics and Machine Learning with the common tool stacks in Python. Profound experience with MLOps, IoT, and LLMs/ RAG/ recommendation engine

Professional practice in handling large data volumes from various sources. Experience with relational, vector, and non-SQL databases

Hands-on experience in the development and operationalization of Agentic AI and Generative AI solutions, including LLM-based applications, autonomous AI agents, and orchestration frameworks

In-depth knowledge of transformer architecture and their practical application in modern Generative AI and large language model solutions

Profound Knowledge in scripting and programming languages, good modern software engineering practices, especially in the contemporary cloud computing concepts

Strong self-learning mindset and intrinsic motivation to tackle challenges independently, leveraging creative and structured problem-solving approaches to deliver impactful results

Fluent in English and preferably in German

Additional requirements for Senior Data Scientist

High expertise in change management demonstrated through several projects that involved a high degree of business transformation

High level of expertise in relevant methods and skills such as machine learning, advanced statistics, generative and agentic AI, data visualization, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, classification methods, feature extraction, dimensionality reduction, data handling algorithms, regression methods, time-series analysis, predictive modelling, etc.

Experience in the scientific supervision of young scientists and students is an advantage
