Job Description

Role Purpose

This role provides senior legal support for the operationalization and scaling of AI across AbbVie, with a focus on enterprise AI use cases, commercial transactions, and governance processes. The position exists to enable efficient, consistent, and risk-aligned deployment of AI technologies across the organization.

Scope & Impact

Enterprise scope supporting high-volume AI deployment and adoption across business functions

Leads legal support for AI-related commercial transactions and operational processes

Plays a key role in scaling AI governance frameworks and intake processes (e.g., ACTOR)

Serves as a senior legal advisor to business and functional stakeholders

Individual contributor role with broad cross-functional engagement

Core Duties & Responsibilities

Provide senior legal support for AI-enabled use cases across all business functions, including commercial, R&D, and enterprise productivity tools

Conduct and oversee legal risk assessments at scale, including: Data privacy and data governance risks

Intellectual property and licensing considerations

Regulatory and compliance implications

Draft, review, and negotiate complex AI-related commercial agreements, including: SaaS and AI vendor agreements

Data licensing and use agreements

AI-enabled service and platform agreements

Lead development and implementation of: Standard AI contracting templates and fallback positions

Enterprise playbooks for AI procurement and vendor engagement

Partner with Legal Operations and Governance teams to: Scale and optimize AI intake and review processes (e.g., ACTOR, workflow tools)

Improve efficiency and consistency in legal review

Provide senior-level guidance and training to business stakeholders on AI legal risks and best practices

Escalate and coordinate resolution of high-risk or complex issues with AI Legal leadership

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membership

Minimum 5+ years of legal experience

Significant experience in commercial contracting and technology transactions

Strong expertise in data privacy, IP, and SaaS agreements

Proven ability to manage complex, high-volume legal workflows

Preferred Qualifications

8+ years of legal experience preferred

Experience with AI/ML technologies or digital platforms

Prior in-house experience in a large, matrixed organization

Familiarity with enterprise governance and workflow tools

Skills & Competencies

Strong business judgment and pragmatic legal approach

Advanced contract negotiation and issue-spotting skills

Ability to operate at scale in a fast-paced environment

Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management

Clear and effective communication skills

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
