Reasearch Associate (all genders) - Biology & Assays

For the Drug Discovery department, we are seeking an experienced Biochemical Assay Scientist to develop, optimize, validate, and execute innovative biochemical assays to support target validation, hit identification, and lead optimization in drug discovery projects. You will work in a multidisciplinary team on the development of new therapies.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, optimize, validate, and execute innovative biochemical assays to support target validation, hit identification, and lead optimization in drug discovery projects

Design and perform biochemical assays such as enzymatic activity assays, protein-protein interaction assays, and target engagement assays using technologies such as TR-FRET, Fluorescence Polarization (FP), and other fluorescence- and luminescence-based assay formats

Generate, analyze, and interpret dose-response curves to characterize biological activity, potency, and mechanism of action of test compounds

Drive assay development, troubleshooting, and continuous optimization to improve assay robustness, throughput, and data quality

Establish scalable screening assays, including assay qualification using key performance metrics such as Z' factor, signal-to-background ratio, and reproducibility

Support assay miniaturization into 384- and 1536-well formats and contribute to high-throughput screening (HTS) campaigns

Implement and utilize laboratory automation workflows and liquid-handling technologies to increase efficiency and reproducibility

Document experimental procedures and results in structured electronic laboratory notebooks and communicate findings effectively within multidisciplinary project teams

WHO YOU ARE

Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent laboratory training with relevant, long-term professional experience

Demonstrated experience in biochemical assay development within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or academic research environments

Strong understanding of assay quality, data analysis, and the interpretation of experimental results in a drug discovery setting

Hands-on experience with miniaturized assay formats, high-throughput experimentation, and digital tools for scientific data evaluation

Excellent scientific rigor, attention to detail, and commitment to generating robust and reproducible data

Independent, structured, and solution-oriented working style combined with a high level of reliability and personal responsibility

Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary and international research teams

High scientific curiosity, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm for advancing innovative drug discovery programs that ultimately improve patient outcomes

Fluency in English, both written and spoken; German language skills are a plus

This is a fixed-term position for 24 months.
